Introduction to Advanced Organizers:

I found the information about advanced organizers in Models of Teaching to be useful and interesting for me to use in my 8th grade social studies class.  I can relate to the idea of intellectually scaffolding a lesson tailoring all levels of my course.  In particular, I thought of my advanced social studies class.  If I decided to use the expository method of advanced organizers this would well fit into a lesson that my advanced class could explore.  This method allows students to gain basic knowledge of a concept and then move to a higher level of intellectual thinking, thus advancing to a higher level of metacognition.

I also found the comparative technique to be more realistic for my remaining classes.  I could use this method to plan a lesson in which students can relate information old and new together. Authors, Joyce and Weil claim that this eliminates confusion between material.  This would especially apply to my English language lerners or special education students.  Overall, I found that using advanced organizers in a lesson would include presenting the actual learing organizer itself as a tool.  Then presenting the task at hand.  Finally, by using this method students would strengthen their cognitive learning skills.
